About Burgess Hill Allotments Association

Burgess Hill Allotments Association was founded in Summer 2023 in the face of looming overdevelopment that threatens the future of the town's allotment sites. Trying times also called for a collaborative social network between the town's allotment sites that may benefit allotment holders and the local community as a whole. We attend semi-regular meetings with Burgess Hill Town Council and site stewards to discuss allotment matters.
The purpose of the Burgess Hill Allotments Association website specifically is to serve as a valuable reference point for allotment holders and local kitchen gardeners by featuring submitted growing tips and recipes. Allotment holders are invited to share photos of their harvest.
The BHAA seeks to stress the huge community benefits and ecological value of allotments during a cost of living crisis and an increasingly uncertain climate. Shortly before the BHAA was formed, an ecological survey was carried out on the under-threat Chanctonbury site, and the Association is keen to stress further the potential to enhance local allotments as havens for wildlife and the need to protect them for future use to benefit both residents and the local ecosystem.
-
Build up the website as a resource for recipes, growing tips and information on ecology specifically relating to allotments. Submissions are always welcome.
-
Provide updates and insight into local council developments and district plans that affect allotments, and maintain active communication with members on social media and via email.
-
Arrange more talks on a variety of subjects that will kitchen gardeners.
We are still a fairly new association. If you would like to get involved in the committee and help out with the BHAA, please get in touch.
